FIBA Americup U16 All-Star Five - Tournament Team

During International Basketball Federation (FIBA) tournaments there is an all-tournament team, called the All-Star Five. The team is made up of players who performed at a high level throughout the event. These players usually helped their teams finish in medal competition. This group was announced following the completion of the Gold Medal game. I will share those named to the All-Star Five, 2nd team All Tournament and others who caught my eye throughout the week.

Ivanna Wilson - 6’1” - Forward -  USA - MVP & All Star Five

18.0/Pts - 7.2/Reb - 2.0/Asst - 3.8/Stl - 1.2/Blk

Wilson led the team in scoring for 3 of the 6 games in the tournament and also shot 40% from behind the 3-Pt line; knocking down 12 total for the event. Wilson did a great job of creating offense from her defense. She was second in the tournament with a 3.8/Stl per game average, including 10 steals in one game. The only returning player with FIBA experience played like a true veteran.

Belen Velazquez - 5’7” - Guard - Mexico - All-Star Five

11.0/Pts - 4.2/Reb - 3.3/Stl - 3.3/Asst

Led her team in scoring throughout the event. Against Team USA scored 14 pts in their matchup. Mexico hosted the event and landed on the medal podium by securing the Bronze behind a great performance by Velazquez. Very bright future for this point guard.

Avery Arije - 5’11” - Guard - Canada - All-Star Five

13.0/Pts - 3.5/Reb - 3.0/Asst - 2.0/Stl

The most talented offensive player not in a USA uniform, Avery was able to create shots off the bounce or catch and shoot situations. There were a good number of NCAA Div 1 coaches that made the trip to watch Avery compete at this event and they all went away very happy. I believe that this is the beginning of a long career in international competition for Avery.

Eve Long - 6’3” - Forward - USA - All-Star Five

11.8/Pts - 4.0/Reb - 1.3/Stl - 1.3/Asst

One of the most consistent players throughout the event, Eve is a very versatile player that has skill and a high motor. Throughout the event she showed her ability to score at all levels. She knocked down a 3-Ptr and did an advanced Euro step in transition that was very smooth.

Keren Bertel - 5’9” - Forward - Columbia - All-Star Five

7.3/Pts - 2.5/Reb - 1.3/Asst - 1.3/Stl

Played very well throughout the tournament and helped Columbia advance to World Cup play next summer with a 4th place finish.

All-Tournament - 2nd Team

Tatianna Griffin - 5’10” - Guard - USA - 2nd Team

13.3/Pts - 3.7/Reb - 2.7/Asst - 2.3/Stl

Griffin was the top bench player throughout the event, she was able to bring instant offense from shot making and creation. Throughout the 6 games Griffin was able to knock down 11 - 3Ptrs including 4 in one game. Tatianna finished the event with the third highest per game scoring average.

Aislin Tamez - 5’10” - Forward - Mexico - 2nd Team

8.3/Pts - 6.0/Reb - 2.8/Asst - 2.8/Stl

Tamez showed great versatility throughout the event as a scorer with 3 games with nine or more points. During her 6 games Aislin was able to have 3 games with four or more steals, three games with three or more assists.

Ashley Vande Ven - 6’2” - Forward - Canada - 2nd Team

8.2/Pts - 5.2/reb - 2.2/Asst - 2.0/Stl

Vande Ven was a part of a very balanced Canadian team that won the Silver Medal. Throughout the 6 games Ashley was able to score in double figures twice and knocked down six - 3Ptrs

Kiara Miro - 5’9” - Forward - Argentina - 2nd Team

12.0/Pts - 5.2/Reb - 2.0/Stl - 1.0/Asst - 1.0/Blk

Miro was a consistent scoring threat for her team with 4 double figure scoring games in her 6 games for her country. Kiara exploded with 23 pts and five - 3Ptrs made in a game versus Puerto Rico.

Micah Ojo - 6’0” - Forward - USA - 2nd Team

14.6/Pts - 4.6/Reb - 2.8/Asst - 3.2/Stl

Ojo played and started in 5 games throughout the event and finished with the second highest per game scoring average. Micah is a skilled player that was able to create opportunities by attacking the rim and playing outstanding defense.
