Team USA came into the final day of pool play at the FIBA Americup with a chance to finish undefeated. They have already secured the top seed coming out of group B, they are looking to keep their focus and prepare for bracket play starting July4. The USA did not waste any time in taking control of the game. Guard - Olivia Miles dropped a dime to Forward - Joyce Edwards for two points with 9:50 remaining in the 1st quarter. USA scored again with 9:06 remaining when Joyce Edwards hit a cutting Kennedy Smith for two points. With 5:14 left in the first quarter Team USA had already grown the lead to 10 - 2, they never looked back and grew the lead to 19 points at Halftime with a score of 43 - 24. The third quarter started and Team USA took it to another level by scoring 36 points, the most of any period so far in the event. I believe that their ability to play for each other will carry them very far in this event. They would close out the game by holding Mexico to only eight points in the fourth quarter of play. Team USA would finish the game with a 104 - 48 victory.
